“In the Footsteps of Amundsen 2011”

A Global Educational Movement to the South Pole.

Ann Bancroft and Liv Arnesen (Bancroft Arnesen Explore) are leading an expedition of six women from six continents on the seventh continent in the footsteps of  Roald Amundsen.who 100 hundred years earlier was the first to set foot on the South Pole.

Antarctica is the last true wilderness. It is a continent owned by no one government – governed by a treaty of nations. Its directive is the peaceful sharing of education and science. It is a perfect place as educators, to launch a dialog with a global community highlighting the challenges our world faces and to explore actions to solve these problems that link us all, no matter where we come from.

Each woman on the team comes from a different region of the world, with knowledge from diverse disciplines. As we pull our sleds to the Pole – the place where all lines of longitude come together connecting us symbolically together, we hope to help connect the understanding that these challenges link us all and that we all have the collective power to begin to make steps to the solutions.

At the South Pole we will launch the real work: Taking the conversation from the ice and the classrooms around the world to action, by bringing everyday people and global leaders- change makers together.

Our goal is to engage 50 million young people combining the excitement of an expedition with partnerships, the wide breadth of technology, social networks with our interactive curriculums.

Our Three Curriculums:

Environment – emphasizing water
Dialog – peaceful conflict resolution
Dare to Dream

Start Date: November 2011
Arrival at South Pole: February 2012
